Department of General Practice

The Department of General Practice of Beijing Tiantan Hospital was licensed by the Beijing Municipal Health Commission in April 2017. After years of development, the department has a high-level medical, teaching, and research team that adheres to the service concept of "long-term responsible management and promotion of all-around health."  The department follows the model of general medical service and builds a platform integrating various specialties with the community to provide high-quality general medical services to patients and residents in the district.

Regarding medical treatment, it has independently set up general outpatient clinics and wards. The department utilizes advanced general medicine service concepts to provide patients with continuous and comprehensive general clinical medical services. To enhance the connection with community health service centers, the department opened the "Wisdom Family Medicine Studio" in March 2019 under the organization of the Health Commission of Fengtai District, selecting excellent general practitioners from community health service centers in Fengtai District to participate in general practice in the department of general practice of Beijing Tiantan Hospital after applying for multi-location practice. At the same time, it cooperates closely with other specialties to create a continuous diagnosis and treatment model between tertiary hospitals and the community. With the Department of General Practice of Beijing Tiantan Hospital as the core, the department realizes the "information communication, personnel communication, and diagnosis and treatment communication" and highlights the characteristics of team wholeness, comprehensive service and diagnosis and treatment continuity, and provides the contracted residents with a full range and integration of health management services. Based on the "intelligent family doctor studio" project, the program carries out regular case discussions, multidisciplinary ward visits, and other activities for primary healthcare institutions in Fengtai District. It comprehensively promotes the capacity of community general practitioners. Contracting with Fengtai, Xincun, and Dahongmen Community Health Service Centers in Fengtai District, all general practitioners of the department will work in an "all-all team" since 2022. They go into different scenarios, such as community health service centers/stations, families and nursing homes, etc., to carry out family doctor contracting services with the family doctor teams of the primary healthcare institutions to comprehensively enhance the connotation of the contracted services and the satisfaction of residents' contracted services and the sense of obtaining the services. In August 2023, under the leadership of the Beijing Municipal Commission of Health, Beijing Tiantan Hospital opened the "Internet Health Rural Outpatient Clinic", providing Internet outpatient services to rural residents of eight township health centers in Shunyi District and Fangshan District. The hospital conducts clinical teaching for general practitioners of township health centers, which rural residents and general practitioners of township health centers have well received. Rural residents and general practitioners of township health centers have widely praised it.

The Department of General Practice undertakes the task of cultivating talents. As the fifth clinical Department of the School of General Practice and Continuing Education of Capital Medical University, it has 2 doctoral supervisors and 7 master's supervisors. As of June 2023, it has cultivated 16 graduates of the unified master's degree, 3 graduates of the doctoral degree, and 11 graduates of master's degree by applying for the same degree of academic competence. Currently, 8 master's degree graduates and 15 equivalent master's degree graduates are in training. As a national standardized training base for general medicine residents, the department has continuously strengthened the management of standardized training for general medicine residents with the orientation of improving residents' job competence. With curriculum and teachers as the core, the department has set up a curriculum system for residents, implemented the dual-mentor system of "one-on-one" mentors and tutors, and carried out the courses of general medicine training, lectures on scientific research methods, book clubs, and other activities, set up a resident study group, and led representatives of outstanding residents to participate in academic conferences to promote the development of general medicine. The passing rate of the first-stage final examination has been maintained at 100%. From 2020 to 2023, 16 core journal articles are published by general medicine residents as the first authors, 2 residents are awarded the Outstanding Paper Award of the Seventh Chinese Congress of Family Medicine, many residents are awarded as the Top Ten Residents of the hospital, and 10 general medicine residents pass the examination and begin to enter the study of applying for a master's degree by the same degree level during the period of residency training. The head of the department was awarded the "Top Ten Excellent Teachers" of clinical training bases by the Beijing Municipal Health Commission in 2017, and the "Excellent Teachers in General Practice Residency Training" of the whole country in 2018. In 2019, the general practice residency training base was awarded the "Outstanding Resident Standardized Training Base for General Practice" by the Chinese Physicians Association, and in the same year, the residents were led to participate in the "Fourth General Practitioner Training Summit Forum-General Medicine Resident Skills Competition" and won the third prize in the country. In 2020, the department was awarded the national key professional base for standardized training of resident doctors, and in 2022, the young faculty of the department won the second prize in the national teaching medical inspection competition.

The department takes chronic disease management and general practice education as the direction of scientific research, undertakes many national, provincial, and ministerial-level scientific research projects. In the past five years, the general practice team has participated in 20 guidelines/expert consensus, 1 national health industry standard, and has published 15 books. In 2020, the department was nominated for the Fudan Specialty Ranking for the first time (12th in the country). In 2021, the department was ranked 10th in the country regarding general practice reputation.

Scope of diagnosis and treatment:

1. Diagnosis and treatment of common and multiple diseases;

2. Diagnosis and treatment of patients who are unable to identify the specialty to which the health problem or disease belongs;

3. Diagnosis and treatment of chronic diseases involving multiple organs and systems;

4. Evaluation and guidance of high-risk factors for metabolic syndrome and cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases;

5. Routine health counseling and health assessment.
