The Department of Hematology of Beijing Tiantan Hospital is a comprehensive department integrating clinical services, medical education, and life-science researches, featured with precise treatment of central nervous system lymphoma/leukemia. This department also provides healthcare covering anemia, bleeding disorders, and other hematologic malignancies. The department has been an authenticated resident doctor training site at Capital Medical University.
Currently, there are 34 beds in the ward, including 6 class-100 purification laminar flow wards. There are 33 medical and nursing staff, including 12 doctors, 1 chief physician, 1 director professor and 3 associate chief physicians; the doctor team is a highly educated medical group, including 3 returned overseas post-doctoral fellows, 5 with PhD degree, and 3 with master’s degree.
Medical Services: all kinds of anemia, hematocrit, myelodysplastic syndrome, acute and chronic leukemia, lymphoma, multiple myeloma, myeloproliferative diseases such as erythropoietic disease, primary thrombocytosis, bleeding diseases such as allergic purpura and thrombocytopenic purpura, and thrombotic diseases.
The Department of Hematology has accumulated excellent experience in the diagnosis and treatment of central nervous system lymphoma, with over 400 cases of primary central nervous system lymphoma under treatment each year. The outcomes of treatment efficiency and survival rates are among the top facilities in China. The department also organizes a series of municipal and national continuing medical education and other training programs for experience sharing and expanding, which are widely recognized and praised by domestic colleagues. Meanwhile, in cooperation with the Department of Neurosurgery, the department carries out precise treatment with combined chemotherapy and targeted therapy for glioma patients.
Development Perspectives: With the establishment of the laminar flow ward and the improvement of hematological laboratory, this department intends to carry out ultra-large dose chemotherapy, hematopoietic stem cell isolation, collection, freezing, storage, and recovery and transplantation techniques, blood cell single harvesting and removal techniques; intends to use cell immunology, chromosome analysis, molecular biology techniques, and other techniques to confirm the diagnosis of hematologic malignancies; intends to use chemotherapy, immunotherapy, stem cell transplantation, and other comprehensive strategies to treat hematologic malignant diseases. In the past 5 years, the Department of Hematology has acquired 3 programs from National Natural Funds, 2 from Beijing Natural Funds and published more than 30 papers in prestigious domestic and international journals. The department will continue to focus on clinical treatment, scientific research, and medical teaching to provide high-quality healthcare services.
