Experimental Diagnostic Center
The Experimental Diagnostic Center of Beijing Tiantan Hospital, affiliated with Capital Medical University, covers a total area of approximately 4,000 square meters. The center currently employs 61 staff members, including 4 with senior professional titles and 11 with associate senior professional titles. There are 2 doctoral supervisors, 1 postdoctoral researcher, 13 individuals with doctoral degrees, and 10 individuals with master's degrees.
On March 6, 2006, our center received accreditation from the China National Accreditation Service for Conformity Assessment (CNAS) for ISO 15189 Medical Laboratory Accreditation, making us one of the first medical laboratories in China to achieve international recognition. We follow an advanced management concept called "One-Five-One-Ten," which involves departmental management under the leadership of a department head. The structure consists of one responsibility (Director-in-charge system), five departments (Materials Support Department, Basic Operations Department, Laboratory Quality Department, Discipline Development Department, and Education Department), one goal (creating a testing platform department to enhance comprehensive service capabilities), and ten dimensions (material management refinement, diversified test items, standardized quality management, optimized discipline development, individualized talent cultivation, platform-based laboratory techniques, international academic exchange, three-dimensional education and teaching, branded social services, and institutionalized departmental management). Our laboratory is equipped with a wide range of facilities, including a blood and body fluid automated pipeline, which encompasses a blood cell analysis pipeline, fully automated blood typing analysis system, fully automated erythrocyte sedimentation rate analysis system, urine analysis pipeline, fully automated fecal analysis system, and a coagulation testing platform. In addition, we have two biochemical and immunology automated pipelines (featuring Hitachi, Roche, Abbott, Beckman, and Siemens pipelines), a molecular diagnostics platform, a microbiology testing platform, a mass spectrometry testing platform, and an autoimmune disease testing platform. We possess over 300 high-value pieces of equipment with a total value of more than 80 million yuan. Currently, our center offers more than 400 different testing services, comprising over 130 clinical test combinations to provide high-quality services to patients.
The center serves as the teaching and research base for Experimental Diagnostic Medicine at Capital Medical University. It is the founding unit of the Clinical Laboratory Diagnostics Department at Capital Medical University, the granting institution for doctoral and master's degrees in Clinical Laboratory Diagnostics, and a postdoctoral research station in Clinical Laboratory Diagnostics. The center is responsible for teaching theoretical and practical courses in Experimental Diagnostic Medicine for the seven-year Clinical Medicine program, the five-year/seven-year Dentistry program, the five-year Pharmacy program, and the six-year International College Clinical Medicine program at Capital Medical University. Additionally, it handles theoretical teaching for Clinical Immunology in the seven-year Clinical Medicine program, and theoretical and practical courses for the four-year Medical Laboratory Technology program. The center also offers three postgraduate courses at Capital Medical University: "Common Clinical Laboratory Techniques and Research Strategies," "Precision Diagnosis and Medical Forecasting," and "Personalized Diagnosis and Artificial Intelligence." Each year, it delivers over 1,000 teaching hours and has been recognized as an outstanding teaching and research department at the Fifth Clinical Medical School of Capital Medical University on multiple occasions. In 2008, 2010, 2012, and 2014, it received the second prize for educational and teaching achievements from Capital Medical University. In 2011, the "Clinical Laboratory Diagnostics Teaching Team" was recognized as a university-level outstanding teaching team. In 2012, the course "Experimental Diagnostic Medicine" was designated as a university-level boutique course. In 2016, it received the second prize for educational and teaching achievements from the Chinese Medical Association. The center has received multiple grants from the President's Fund of Capital Medical University and has organized thirteen "Diagnostic Teaching Teacher Training Courses," training over a hundred young teachers for Capital Medical University. The center has also authored several textbooks, including "Clinical Laboratory Examination Strategy for Cerebrospinal Fluid," "Experimental Diagnostic Medicine," "Clinical Immunology and Diagnostics," and "Clinical Laboratory Diagnostics."
In 2005, our center was accredited as the training base for standardized training of resident physicians and technicians in clinical laboratory diagnostics by the Beijing Municipal Health Commission. In 2014, we received national recognition as a standardized training base for resident physicians in clinical laboratory diagnostics. Our training base diligently follows the training requirements set by both the national and Beijing Municipal Health Commission for resident physician training.
Over the years, we have trained nearly a hundred physicians and technicians. The pass rate for resident physicians in standardized training is 100%, and for technicians, it is 92%. In the second phase of physician assessments, the pass rate is also 100%. Starting in 2013, our center implemented a specialized management model for resident physicians, known as the "one-line, five-facets" model. This model focuses on five key areas: establishing a comprehensive document system, nurturing teaching staff, refining the training process, monitoring training quality, and maintaining training materials. We have gradually improved the resident training system, emphasized the development of teaching staff, and enhanced the quality of training for resident physicians. This model has attracted a significant number of students who choose to undergo training at the Beijing Tiantan Hospital Diagnostic Center.
Our center boasts robust research capabilities and maintains stable research directions, including the following:
1.Establishment and evaluation of diagnostic systems for postoperative infections in neurosurgery.
2.The relationship between coagulation indicators and brain diseases.
3.Research on the metabolism of stroke (cerebrovascular accidents).
4.Proteomics research on autoimmune diseases of the nervous system.
5.The role of serum exosomes in clinical classification of pituitary tumors.
Moreover, we have established multiple research platforms based on these research directions. Our center is involved in various key research projects, including the 863 Program, 973 Program, major projects of the Ministry of Science and Technology, National Science and Technology Support Program projects, Beijing Natural Science Foundation projects, projects with distinctive features in Beijing, projects for training high-level health technical talents in the Beijing health system, Beijing Science and Technology Plan projects, and research fund projects from Capital Medical University, and so on. The total research funding for these projects exceeds 4 million RMB. Since now, we have published over 50 SCI articles, more than 300 articles in Chinese core journals, authored over 40 specialized textbooks, and obtained three patents.
The center currently serves as the President's unit for the Beijing Medical Laboratory Association (a first-tier professional association), the Director's unit for the Medical Laboratory Engineering Branch of the Chinese Society of Biomedical Engineering, the Chairman's unit for the Precision Testing and Precision Diagnosis Expert Committee of the Laboratory Physicians Branch of the Chinese Medical Association, the Chairman's unit for the Clinical Immunology and Biochemistry Branch of the Beijing Medical Laboratory Association, the Beijing Immunoreagent Clinical Engineering Technology Research Center, and the Chairman's unit for the Fengtai District Medical Laboratory Quality Control and Improvement Center. We have organized multiple national-level continuing medical education programs, such as the "Advancements in In Vitro Diagnostics - New Technologies, New Methods, New Concepts Seminar," the "Advanced Seminar on Laboratory Precision Management under the ISO 15189 Management System," and the "Advanced Seminar on Specialized Testing in Neurological Disorders Laboratories." These programs have received strong support and positive feedback from participants across the country.
The Experimental Diagnostic Center of Beijing Tiantan Hospital is committed to the goal of "establishing a laboratory platform department, enhancing comprehensive service capabilities, and achieving precision laboratory management." Our aim is to become an internationally advanced and domestically top-tier laboratory.
